The Painters Draws International Crowds During the ‘Korea in Motion’ Campaign

The Painters, Korea’s non-verbal live drawing performance, was highlighted by Aju Business Daily on Oct. 30, 2026 as a leading show in “Korea in Motion.” The performing arts tourism campaign is run by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization from Oct. 16 to Nov. 30.
The Painters operates two dedicated theaters in Seoul, Gwanghwamun and Seodaemun, and welcomes about 1,000 guests a day. Around 70% of them are international visitors. Even on a weekday afternoon, Oct. 22, the Gwanghwamun theater was packed with tourists.
For 75 minutes, four performers tell the story through dance, comedy and drawing, without a single line of dialogue. Live marbling and drawing turn into finished works, such as a Van Gogh self-portrait, blended with 3D projection.
New for the campaign, guests step onto the stage after the show to make marbled eco-bags with the cast.
A first-time visitor from Chongqing, China said she hopes her friends back home will see the show. Anna from Taiwan recommended it to every Taiwanese traveler in Seoul. An art graduate from Türkiye said the workshop reminded her of ebru, her country’s traditional water marbling art. Momo from Japan said the 75 minutes flew by, even without knowing Korean.
